ASTRO wins Top Media Brand Award at the Putra Brand Awards 2010

Kuala Lumpur, 25 March 2010 - ASTRO, Malaysia's leading cross media broadcaster and Direct to Home satellite Pay TV operator was recognized as the Top Media Brand when it won the GOLD award under the Media and Entertainment category at the Putra Brand Awards 2010 yesterday.

Organized in association with the Malaysia's Most Valuable Brands (MMVB), the Putra Brand Awards is a recognition and brand valuation exercise to not only recognize public-listed companies but also local brands and SMEs that are near and dear to the hearts of Malaysians. While MMVB measures best brands by financial valuation, the Putra Brand Awards measures brands by consumer preference.

Presenting the Awards was International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Mukhriz Mahathir summarized the notion of Top Brand quite aptly, "A product is something made in a factory; a brand is something that is bought by the customer. A product can be copied by a competitor; a brand is unique. A product can be quickly outdated; a successful brand is timeless."

A consumer research polling system involving 6,000 people helped select Malaysia's most preferred brands across a spectrum of 18 categories with the top three brands in each category being honoured with a gold, silver and bronze ranking. This is the largest consumer research sampling of its kind nationwide covering both East and West Malaysia. The Silver awards were given to Star and 8TV while the Bronze awards were awarded to TV3 and MalaysiaKini.

The Putra Brand Awards is the only brand awards in the country endorsed by MATRADE and supported by the Branding Association of Malaysia (BAM), the Malaysian Advertisers Association (MAA), and the Media Specialists Association (MSA).
