If you are staying in a condominium unit with a centralised dish, the availability of Astro High-Definition depends on whether your building has compatible infrastructure for HD transmission. For confirmation on the compatibility, we suggest that you clarify this with your building management.
Most condominiums operating on existing Astro platform are equipped to receive transmission for standard definition broadcast. For HD broadcast, it would require a different infrastructure to allow the transmission to take place. Hence, recabling of the infrastructure is needed to enable these condominiums to receive HD.
Introducing new technology-based service often requires an upgrade; it can be as small as a chip or a gadget, or as big and complex as an infrastructure. In this case, some buildings need to be upgraded to enable them to receive HD.
Astro is currently liaising with property developers in expediting the systems upgrade. For new condominiums, property developers are advised to ensure that their building infrastructures are built in compatible with Astro High-Definition requirements. We expect to have condominiums recabled within the next 18-24 months. However, this is subject to the agreement with the building management.
