MERU CHAMPS DANCES OFF TO HAINAN
Club champion Tan Chee Kean was the firm favourite to win the second leg of the Prudential Astro Masters at Meru Valley GCC, and he did not disappoint. Tan walked away an easy winner with a gross 71 to collect an LG DVD player and qualify for the grand finals in Hainan Island.
Also gaining entry to the grand final was Penangite Ng Kok Wah, a 22-handicapper who came home with a whopping 62 nett.
Khor Soo Huat was a big winner when he knocked his ball nearest to the pin on Hole #16. His effort of three feet earned him a 42-inch LG LCD television.
A full field of 120 participants signed up for this leg of the Prudential Astro Masters that boasts a total of 21 qualifying rounds throughout the country including Sabah and Sarawak.
Mohd Mislan Fazali won the ‘A’ Medal, scoring 39 stableford points while Low Teck Poh won the ‘B’ Medal with an effort of 43 points. The ‘C’ Medal winner was Tan Peng Hock who came home with 42 points. All three collected LG home theatre systems.
At Impian GCC, Tey Wee Tiong came home with a creditable 75 gross to capture his ticket to Hainan while 18-handicapper Irwan Adnan scored a nine-under 63 to bag the nett trophy and also a place in the Hainan finals.
Abu Bakar Ahmad took home the 42-inch LC LCD television when he emerged as the Sure-to-Win hole-in-one winner at the 16th hole. His ball ended up one metre from the cup.
Mohamad Jamil Palil won a Home Theatre by snatching the ‘A’ Medal, scoring 42 points in the process. Second was Rosli Shaari with 39 points and third was Asrulsani Shannon a point further adrift. They took home DVD players.
Khairul Nizam Rasif who played off to a 15 handicap won the ‘B’ Medal and a Home Theatre when he shot eight-under 44 points. Tam Chee Wah also produced a similar score when this 18-handicapper carded 44 points, or eight under his handicap.
Meanwhile, Datuk Vincent Lee qualified for the grand finals of the Prudential Astro Masters when he finished with a gross 79 in the Astro Advertisers’ Round at Saujana GCC, finishing tops in a field of 90 comprising advertisers, sponsors and members of the Media.
Lee’s nearest rival was Tong Thiam Hock who also carded a 79 but the former won after a countback by having a better back nine. The other qualifier was Jimmy Yaw who emerged as the Grand Lucky Draw winner.
Imran Mohamad Nor, Jonathan Ang and Dunstan Cheng won the ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ Medal categories with scores of 40, 36 and 39 stableford points respectively. They each took home LG electronic products.
Allan Teh came close to scoring a hole-in-one at the tricky Par 3 17th when his tee-shot ended up 22 inches from the hole. Teh found great consolation in that his effort was closest to the pin and he landed a 42-inch LG LCD television.
Astro chairman Dato’ Badri Hj Masri gave away the main prizes.
